Rushda Moosajee, 36

Your role at RushTush?
I wear so many hats in my company and dance in so many shoes across the board, I am very involved and I often get my hands dirty and do what needs to be done. From being the model, to working on strat, to writing articles to styling and product development. I am the girl lol.

Your pet peeve?
Entitled people. People that expect things to happen for them. If you want something you need to wake up every day and go for it. You can only understand and appreciate what success is if you’ve earned it.

As a female, what do you think has been the biggest barrier in your career?
Literally just existing and breathing air. Men think they’re stronger, better and more deserving of women in most industries, fitness and health is no exception. I’m here to demonstrate that I can do everything men can do, but even better and while I’m on my period.

Has becoming a mother changed the way you feel as a women in SA?
Yes, with GBV I don’t see a safe present and future, it means as we have to raise our kids to be more careful, aware and instil fear, which is no way to raise your kids. Because I am a mother of boys, I teach and intend too make sure they understand the importance of women protection, consent and raise them with values and morals.

Why is woman equality so important?
Honestly I feel like women are the backbones of societies and communities, we should be elevated much further than our current status, even in 2021.

What makes you feel empowered?
So many things. Mostly the fact that I’ve been able to transform my passion into a growing beast. Not only does it employ and outsource services but it creates a space of light for many in a dark time. Achieving my mission to uplift and empower women makes me feel like we can achieve anything.

What roles do you as a woman feel are outdated in 2021?
All the specific gender roles we have been raised within communities believe on a subconscious level. It starts with how mothers raise their sons differently to how they raise their daughters.

How do you feel about roles woman are expected to play in a community?
Many ideas are outdated. Things have evolved and so should our thinking. Women are beyond the kitchen and the bedroom. You will find us pregnant or just having given birth taking up space that was previously reserved for men only.

Do you consider yourself a modern woman?
Absolutely. Since a little girl, I’ve made my own rules.

What do you love most about your job?
Seeing the women I help and work with win! I celebrate every win with them, I feel the joy, the milestones and growing strength. I truly care about the women. I love being able to do this anywhere!

What is your least favourite thing about your job?
It must be when people refer to me as an influencer. I cringe every time.

What is your favourite RushTush product?
Tough one!!!! I can never choose one! RUSHTUSHFITAPP!
